The Gospel is Everywhere

Sr. Corita Kent said years ago that the essence of the spiritual life is not to go looking for extraordinary events, but to learn to see the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The Buddha said, "I am awake!" Thich Nhat Hanh teaches "Mindfulness." One of the openings of consciousness is the arts, which invite us to wake up and "see" in new ways. One of these provocative media is film.

I've said to many that the movie "Big Fish" is the best movie about the Bible ever. This week I went to see Wall-E. It's a delightful action adventure/love story/comedy appropriate to children of all ages; a mix of 2001 Space Odyssey, Star Wars, An Inconvenient Truth, and tender robot love all stirred together.

If you're interested in the spiritual life, make sure you see both.
