one never knows...
One of the most recent and exciting interfaces of science and philosophy is "Chaos Theory." One of the most interesting tenets of chaos theory is how tiny inputs may have huge effects downstream. Early in my career Betty and I were involved in youth ministry. Thirty years later some of those youth have gotten the idea of holding a reunion. It has been very heartwarming to see how many of those rambunctious youth have turned out -- wonderful, life-filled adults. Betty and I were not trying to make them into "good" people or churchy people. Instead, our purpose and joy was simply to love and accept them as they were, and welcome them to become whatever the Holy Spirit had in mind for them. The remarkable fondness these adults have for each other and for that time in their lives bears strong testimony for the power and influence of committed youth ministry -- and the power of accepting love. Our inputs were small. Big results downstream are gratifyingly evident. I remember Mother Teresa's testimony: her responsibility was faithfulness -- the outcome is up to God. One never knows...
