update

with my previous post, I was worrying myself sick -- and noting the presence of the divine in human form -- again -- in reference to Hurricane Gustav. My friends down da bayou have checked in, one by one, to tell me the mostly good news. Eventually ALL of them did evacuate. As they have returned, they've all found damage, sure, but a lot less of it than anticipated. My friend _______________, a man of prayer who would not ask of God that they be spared at the expense of others, and many others, have nonetheless been spared the worst. Resilient, all, they will clean up and fix up and go on. They, and I, are grateful.

The litter, everywhere after a hurricane, horribly ugly, will be cleaned up.
